Dog may vomit for several reasons there may be an intestinal dysfunction or they may have eaten something wrong but if it is vomiting blood then it is a serious issue to consider as soon as possible. The dog vomiting blood also called hematemesis may be because of the temporary dysfunction in the stomach which can be cause by eating something dirty or stale which the dogs may have eaten from the roadside. There may be a problem in the digestive system or in any other part of the body like liver or stomach can also cause blood vomiting. The blood vomiting in dogs can be temporary which may have been because of some small cut inside the mouth or any infection. This will cause a few drops of blood of red color in the vomiting but if the vomiting is permanent then it is because of some disease or some serious infection in that case bulk of blood of dark red or coffee color can be seen in the vomiting.  

The most common of reason for dog vomiting blood is gastro intestinal dysfunction if this is the cause then vomiting will have partially digestive food along with blood. This may cause other problems also like abnormal water drinking habits, weight loss and anorexia. If the dog is suffering from some disease like diarrhea then the reason for vomiting of blood can be tumor or inflammation in the abdominal area. In such cases which can take ugly turn quickly one should not delay the curing process and should take the sample of the blood of the dog to the veterinary doctor as soon as possible.

The blood sample in case of dog vomiting blood is the most essential thing on which doctor diagnoses a disease and on the basis of the sample they start the treatment. If the case is severe then veterinary will ask the owner to admit the dog in the hospital for few days to make its condition stable by giving it drugs and keep the dog under observation during that period.

Some precautions are required to be taken after the treatment regarding the diet and eating and drinking habits. Every cause of the blood vomiting has a different treatment therefore it all depends on the doctor how he goes about the treatment as small cut or infection can have an easy treatment where as a disease like cancer or a tumor may require a lot of tests before the treatment starts.
